| RANT™: A Simple but Compelling Tool for Sentencing and Dispositions The Risk and Needs Triage (RANT™) is a decision support tool for judges and other criminal justice professionals developed by scientists from TRI’s Section on Law & Ethics Research. RANT was derived from empirical evidence showing that outcomes in community correctional settings are influenced by how well drug-involved offenders are matched to services suited to both their clinical needs and criminogenic risks. RANT addresses these factors through a short, 19-item automated assessment that can be administered in 15 minutes or less by minimally trained correctional officials or clinicians. An optional module is included at no additional cost which assesses antisocial personality disorder. Highly secure and web-based, RANT yields immediate and easily understandable reports sorting offenders into one of four risk/needs quadrants, each with direct implications for suitable correctional dispositions and behavioral health care plans. Immediate scoring outputs assist in real-time dispositional decisions by judges, attorneys and other decision makers with appropriate security access.
