RANT™ and RANT-Plus™ are highly secure ASP.NET applications using an MS SQL Server. All transmissions are industry-standard encrypted using 128 bit SSL. The user-interface consists of simple-to-read input screens that present each item one at a time, with the results presented in an HTML output that can be printed and saved as a PDF document. Each item is accompanied by a help menu that clearly describes the intent and rationale for the item and specific instructions for interviewers.

RANT is hosted on the TRI server and accessible to all jurisdiction staff with the appropriate clearance. (Internet Explorer versions 5.5 or higher are required.) Although users can e-mail technical questions to TRI at any time, no formal training is required as the system comes with a user’s manual and is navigationally intuitive, with the purpose and rationale for each question explained through “Help” buttons built into each screen. RANT-Plus is available in two versions based on local circumstances:

The RANT-Plus Basic Package is locally hosted and supported on a program, agency or state server. This package offers a customized instrument, system installation and manual configuration, a limited menu of automated reports, and training for interviewers and IT personnel. The RANT-Plus Premium Package offers the same IT and interviewer training but hosting and database maintenance are provided by TRI. This option allows real-time modification of items, help menus and algorithms for end users, training and technical support, real-time updates, and access to a Web-based help desk. The Premium option also offers TRI-generated descriptive reports, and maintenance of a database to evaluate programs and policies as well as perform local validation of the RANT instrument.
